Kevin Ashton

Kevin Ashton

Kevin Ashton

Co-Founder & CEO, Zensi; Inventor of the “Internet of Things”

Kevin Ashton is a visionary technologist and an expert in digital transformation. He coined the term “the Internet of Things.” The European Commission, the Chinese government, and the US National Intelligence
Council all describe the Internet of Things as one of the major technologies of the 21st Century. In in 2013, the term was added to the Oxford Dictionaries. Kevin Ashton is the author of the How To Fly A Horse: The Secret History of Creation, Invention, and Discovery, which was described by the Toronto Post as “the last book about creativity you’ll ever need to read,” and named 2015 Business Book of the Year by 800-CEO-READ. His writing about innovation and technology has appeared in the New York Times, The Atlantic, Politico, and Quartz. He co-founded the Auto-ID Center at MIT and took it from a converted broom closet to a global organization with six labs around the world, 103 corporate sponsors, and over a hundred researchers. And he has led three highly successful tech start-ups, most recently Zensi, which he co-founded and sold to
Belkin in 2010. As a result, Kevin has a unique, real-world perspective on what it takes to build organizations that are innovative and how to be an innovator in organizations that aren’t. He has been called “the father of the Internet of Things” by Newsweek; “a modern-day Johnny Appleseed” by Wired and “a man who will change the world” by RFID Journal. He makes the complicated clear and simple using compelling, engaging true stories and case studies; always makes his audience laugh; and is always willing to tailor his lively, practical lectures to the specific needs of his audience.

Mark Cuban

Mark Cuban

Mark Cuban

Businessman, investor and owner of the Dallas Mavericks

Since the age of 12, Mark has been a natural businessman. Selling garbage bags door to door, the seed was planted early on for what would eventually become long-term success. After graduating from Indiana University – where he briefly owned the most popular bar in town – Mark moved to Dallas. After a dispute with an employer who wanted him to clean instead of closing an important sale, Mark created MicroSolutions, a computer consulting service. He went on to later sell MicroSolutions in 1990 to CompuServe.

In 1995, Mark and long-time friend Todd Wagner came up with an internet based solution to not being able to listen to Hoosiers Basketball games out in Texas. That solution was Broadcast.com – streaming audio over the internet. In just four short years, Broadcast.com (then Audionet) would be sold to Yahoo for $5.6 billion dollars.

Since his acquisition of the Dallas Mavericks in 2000, he has overseen the Mavs competing in the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history in 2006 – and becoming NBA World Champions in 2011. They are currently listed as one of Forbes’ most valuable franchises in sports.

In addition to the Mavs, Mark is chairman and CEO of AXS tv, one of ABC’s “Sharks” on the hit show Shark Tank, and an investor in an ever-growing portfolio of businesses. He lives in Dallas with wife Tiffany, daughters Alexis and Alyssa, and son Jake.

Security Lead, Uber Advanced Technologies Center
